AMBIENTE STAGE | BELLE CHEN (Taiwan)

Organised by: Koncertzāle Cēsis

Taiwanese pianist, composer and sound artist Belle Chen creates a unique musical world in which the elegance of classical piano blends seamlessly with electronic soundscapes, improvisation and textures inspired by nature. Her concerts offer a multidimensional experience – a synthesis of sound, light and space that takes listeners on a meditative, emotionally rich journey.

Belle Chen gained international recognition following her debut at the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2024, where she received a standing ovation and was described as an “original and provocative” artist whose work evokes a genuine sense of discovery. Her latest album, “Ravel In The Forest”, released on Platoon, has received widespread critical acclaim, reaching No. 7 on the UK’s Official Specialist Classical Chart and No. 15 on Australia’s ARIA Classical Albums Chart.

In the album and concert programme “Ravel In The Forest”, listeners are guided through mysterious forest landscapes, quiet meadows and tropical worlds of sound. “Notes fall like raindrops, gathering pace as the clouds thicken. The piano melody splashes and scatters across the electronic landscape; the trees grow denser, the journey deeper.” This musical world is filled with motifs from nature – birdsong and imagery of chameleons and dragonflies – creating the sensation of being suspended between reality and imagination.

The influences of Maurice Ravel, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi can be heard in Belle Chen’s work, where melodic tenderness intertwines with synthesiser experiments, classical virtuosity and free-flowing improvisation. Her music feels equally at home in jazz, contemporary and experimental music settings.

For her Ambiente Stage concert at Cēsis Concert Hall, Belle Chen will present a special programme exploring the interplay between people and nature, with each sound becoming part of a broader soundscape. The evening will feature pieces from “Ravel In The Forest” alongside new compositions, weaving piano melodies, electronic sounds and improvisation into a cohesive, atmospheric musical narrative. This delicate and visually rich solo performance will invite listeners to experience stillness, a sense of presence and a deep emotional connection with sound and nature.

Preschool-age children will not be admitted to the concert.
